Historically Edward Stafford a transport rider from Stafford's Post, Harding was the first European to choose Port Edward as the ideal holiday destination. Port Edward went through several name changes as property was bought and sold, but it all stopped in 1952 when Port Edward was named after the then Prince of Wales.
At the mouth of the Umtamvuna River, it is best known for its excellent golf course and a local casino resort. More interesting, though, is the community-run horse, hiking and canoeing trail. Port Edward is about 170 kilometres (105 miles) south of Durban.
Port Edward is ideal for anyone needing some rest and relaxation. There are many golf courses nearby, as well as wonderful picnic sites. Some of the attractions and activities at Port Edward are: fishing, wonderful holiday accommodation, sun bathing, camping, boating and kayaking.
